Research: How to make a short film

Hello everyone, i have decided to watch a YouTube video titled, "How to make a short film". It gave me amazing ideas and thought i would share.

Adhere to your central theme.

Ensure that your shots, flashbacks, and dialogue align with your overarching theme. It might be tempting to deviate, so the initial advice from the video was to maintain focus by establishing and adhering to a consistent theme. An illustration was provided using a short film where every element tied back to the message the main character's mother was conveying.

Avoid predictability.

Embrace unpredictability – as the video suggested, "If your brain is telling you to go left, go even farther right." This prevents the audience from anticipating your next move, keeping them engaged. The example given involved a horror film where a potential jump scare was delayed, subverting expectations and maintaining audience suspense.

Be conscious of your equipment.

Recognize the impact of different cameras and equipment on the visual outcome of your film. Whether using an iPhone or a high-end Canon camera, understanding how the footage will look is crucial for creating the desired atmosphere. Operating on a limited budget and using a cell phone for recording poses challenges, especially in darker settings for an ominous presence. Despite this, awareness of these factors will guide the focus and direction of the project.
